A .577 PORTUGUESE ISSUE SNIDER TWO BAND MK III RIFLE BY B.S.A & M.CO DATED 1875. serial number P292 with 30 1/2ins. barrel fitted with block and blade front-sight and elevating ladder rear-sight, both Birmingham and Liege proofs to breech together with Portuguese military inspection stamps, the hinged breech block with positive latch operated bolt locking system stuck on the top "B.S.A. CO" together with Liege proofs, the lock stamped on the tail with the Portuguese royal crown over "G.P." and "B.S.A. & M. CO" and dated 1875, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock, this is one of a quantity supplied by B.S.A. to the Government of Portugal in 1875 originally as a three band rifle and later when sold off as surplus modified by the Liege trade to two band configuration for commercial sale, with sling swivels, rod missing, fading finish in some areas
